Toddler Learning

Toddlers learning

Friday 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
For Parent and Child  *18 months to 2 yr 11 months
Parents and their toddlers are introduced to their first school experience. Special consideration is given to parent, teacher and child bonding which strengthens throughout the year, ultimately developing a secure and confident relationship which allows a smooth transition into the preschool class where the child is more independent.

Tuesday & Thursday  9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.                                              *2 years to 2 yr 11 months old
Using creative play and nurturing instruction, children engage in a multitude of activities to foster growth in relationship building, cognitive thinking and physical endurance. Preschoolers’ develop an understanding that learning and living in community is important and that their place within it is highly valued.


Combo Class & Pre-Kindergarten Class

Combo Class: Monday, Wednesday, & Friday  9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. 
*3 years and older 

Pre-K Class: Monday-Thursday  9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
*3.5 years and older 
    
Through self directed, teacher facilitated and parent supportive curriculum Pre-Kindergarten children will develop skills in social grace, cognitive thinking and physical development. Curriculum is based on developmentally appropriate practices with Kindergarten readiness criteria at the root of all experiences. All of which leads each child on a path of self confidence, academic perseverance with a motivation to learn, and a compassion for the world they live in.

All classes follow the Pleasant Valley School District calendar with classes running from September to June
 * age ranges are for child’s age on Sept 1st
Since the Co-op is highly sensitive to the needs of the children and the community, classes may change from year to year

9:00 – 9:50 am       Indoor activity time – art, manipulative play, play dough, science, blocks, dramatic play, dance, music, stories,                                                                            journaling, writing table
9:50 – 10:15           Clean up and Circle time - stories, music, movement, finger plays, songs, discussion      
10:15 – 10:35         Snack - family style, children set the table, and self serve a diverse selection of nutritious foods
10:35 – 11:20         Outdoor activities – climb, swing, run, bikes, balls, gardening, table activities, art, water, sand, dramatic play,                                                                             books, and nature exploration
11:20 – 11:30         Closing circle inside – goodbye

Combo Class:  M/W/F

Note: there is shared outdoor time on Mondays & Wednesdays between the  Combo class and the Pre-Kindergarten class

CURRICULUM THROUGH THE DAY:ComboClassBoard

Free Choice  A teachable moment is the moment they’ve chosen: we provide lots of areas to choose from, and they move freely around the classroom.
Creative Art ActivitiesOpen ended, sensory stimulated or theme oriented activities are offered every day during free play time.
Music - Offered during through out the day, and during circle time: singing a songs, playing instruments, and moving and grooving to familiar artists.
Problem Solving - Science activities are planned with general themes (magnets, nature, weather, water, puzzles, experiments with clay, sand, play-dough). Math concepts such as measurements, balance, sorting, patterning, counting, and number recognition are all incorporated into the fun.
Gross Motor - Outside play: bikes, balance beam, slide, balls, parachute, hula hoops and sand box outside and creative dance & movement inside.
Quiet/Solitary Opportunities - Book area, loft area and various small table writing areas available. 
Story Time - Every day we read books, and often we journal with children writing their stories to read at circle time.
Language Development Happens throughout the class: in the writing area, during circle time, dramatic play area, and socializing throughout the day with other adults and children. They’ll hear and build their language base through song, finger play, tongue twisters, and conversations building on their reading readiness skills of letter recognition, phonetic and phonological awareness.
Social Development - Children learn social skills throughout the day in all play and in small group activities and non competitive games build friendships, and cooperation among peers.
Social Studies Children learn about their world, their community and their family heritage through shared traditions and celebrations.
Emotional DevelopmentChildren learn self-control, self-motivation and self understanding of their growing capabilities through the support, guidance, and love from everyone in the school.
